"What's a nice Jewish girl like me doing with a slab of meat like this," I found myself wondering as I pulled the maple-cured ham from our fridge. First, let's get one thing straight: To say I don't keep kosher would be a pretty massive understatement. Still, I'd never cooked a ham before. Given my druthers, I wouldn't have chosen ham, but the meat CSA we belong to -- which delivers local organic meat to us once a month, hallelujah -- gives us whatever they've got, and this month, ham was what they got. So I was going to cook it...on Easter Sunday, no less! Oy!
