10 Ridiculous, Over-the-Top Wedding Cakes

June wedding season is here. Soon church bells will be ringing everywhere. With all the preparation that goes into making a wedding happen, the cake is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. The moment the happy couple stuffs each other's faces with pieces of cake will be a moment to remember--and photos will ensure it. The perfect cake is important, because it shows the couple's personality.

With TV shows like Food Network Challenge and Ace of Cakes, there are bakers and cake decorators who have the ability to turn any idea (no matter how "out there") into a reality. These extreme cakes are only limited by the imagination.

We scoured the internet to find our list of the most ridiculous, over-the-top wedding cakes. Some of these are cute and some are just a little creepy. They don't all include the traditional bride and groom topper. And now it's even popular for grooms to have separate cakes from their brides.

This groom's cake by The Uncommon Cakery is perfect for the Star Wars fan. R2-D2 is made of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and fondant details. Only the bow-tie is inedible.

These animal lovers chose a giraffe couple as their wedding cake because the giraffes symbolize strength. Except for the veil and the support system for the necks, the cake by Wicked Little Cake Company is entirely edible.

Nice and unique cakes, outside tradition obviously, but I expected to see truly over the top cakes. I don't think they scoured the internet enough. As a wedding planner, I have already seen and used cakes similar to most of these. We have a local baker that does a much more realistic looking deer head. We have had Star Wars themed 3D cakes, even that Mario cake I've seen in an improved, more elaborate version at one of our weddings.(That bride did make her entire wedding planned around the Mario Bros. theme.) Nice concept for an article, but, lets see really over the top if you're going to use that title. I am in mid-sized city in the Midwest....if these nontraditional cakes can be readily found in my market, I don't think they are over the top.

Besides being bazzaar, and over the wall from what we have all come to expect at a wedding, the quality of the craftsmanship looks like most of them were made by a child. I guess, please give me tradition! I would not feel like I was being married...more like I was at a Halloween Party!

I think it's mean to refer to them as "ridiculous." Some of them are quite spectacular. I love the Day of the Dead one - so colorful and fun! Why do wedding cakes have to be white and boring? Answer: they don't!
