The 2014 James Beard Award nominees have been announced.

For those who don't know, the James Beard Awards are like the culinary version of the Academy Awards.

This year in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category, it's no surprise that Dominique Ansel of Dominique Ansel Bakery (and Cronut-fame) has been nominated. But he's facing tough competition against Christina Tosi of Momofuku (New York), Dahlia Narvaez of Osteria Mozza (Los Angeles) and others.

The Outstanding Chef category is equally fierce. Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern (New York), Sean Brock of McCrady's (South Carolina), Suzanne Goin of Lucques (Los Angeles), David Kinch or Manresa (Los Angeles), Nancy Silverton of Pizzeria Mozza (Los Angeles) and Marc Vetri of Vetri (Philadelphia).
