Set a theme

A theme always makes a party more fun. You can keep it simple and have people dress for the Emmy's themselves, or you can choose a favorite show or award category as your theme. No matter what, be sure to go all out. We're talking red carpets, custom food and gift bags.

Turn up the AC

The day of the show, be sure to crank up the AC so that by the time guests arrive, it's nice and cool. This way, the body heat from a large gathering won't result in people sweating through their gorgeous ensembles.

Include more seating than necessary

Always plan for more people than you actually think you'll have. Having a place to rest is particularly important with watch parties, so always include more people in your seating plan than you think will show.

Use paper plates and utensils

When you plan a party, always plan for the clean-up. Using paper (or plastic) plates and utensils will allow you to tailor more easily to your theme, and it will make your clean-up a lot easier.

Keep the food classy

The Emmy's are a very fancy occasion, so make sure that your food fits the bill. Plus, you don't want to make people eat something that's messy and could potentially ruin an outfit.

Cook ahead of time

Hosting an Emmy party is a lot of fun, but it's not more important than getting to watch the show. Cook everything ahead of time so that you don't miss all of the awkward acceptance speeches.

If you can, record the show

If you have DVR, use it to your advantage. Record the show just in case you miss something during all of your hosting duties. That way, you can go back and watch it later.

Bring the glamour to your house by having a designated photo area for people to pose for their close-up!
