When the temperature starts to rise, there's nothing that can quench your thirst quite like lemonade. The summer staple is very easy to make at home and the ideal beverage to complement a barbecue. With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up a tasty lemonade in no time.
How to Make Lemonade
The most basic lemonade is very easy to make. You will need: a cup of sugar, five cups of water, about six to eight lemons and ice. First, make a simple syrup by simmering the water until the sugar has completely dissolved. Then squeeze the lemons until you have a cup of lemon juice. Combine the cooled simple syrup, lemon juice and water. Stir and taste to see if you need more sugar, then add ice and enjoy!
Instead of using lemon juice, just use limes.
Use Meyer lemons and add a little bit less simple syrup, about 1/2 cup to 2/3 cup.
For pink lemonade, add a little bit of grenadine syrup.
Garnishes aren't necessary, but they add some fun flair to the lemonade. A slice of fruit or a sprig of mint will brighten up the lemonade (and make it look pretty).
