Apple Strudel with Vanilla Sauce

THAW pastry sheet at room temperature 30 min. Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix egg and water.

MIX sugar, flour and cinnamon. Add apples, almonds and raisins and toss to coat.

UNFOLD pastry on lightly floured surface. Roll into 12"x10" rectangle. Cut into 2 (12" x 5") rectangles. Place 1 rectangle on baking sheet. Top with apple mixture to within 1" of edges. Brush edges with egg mixture. Top with remaining rectangle and crimp edges to seal. Cut 2" slits 2" apart on top. Brush with egg mixture.

BAKE 35 min. or until golden. Cool on baking sheet on wire rack. Serve with Vanilla Sauce .

TIP: Vanilla Sauce: Mix 3/4 cup milk, 1/2 cup light cream, 1/3 cup sugar, 4 egg yolks, beaten and 1/2 vanilla bean in saucepan. Cook and stir until mixture boils and thickens. Remove from heat. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hr. Remove vanilla bean. Makes about 1 3/4 cups.
