A hint of cinnamon in a buttery sugar cookie: A flavor combination so universally liked that these cookies have become a classic.

Ingredients

Makes: dozen

Directions

Preheat oven to 375F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

In a large bowl, with electric mixer at medium speed, beat butter and granulated sugar until creamy, occasionally scraping bowl with rubber spatula. Beat in vanilla and egg. At low speed, gradually add flour mixture and beat just until blended, occasionally scraping bowl.

Working in batches, use the palms of your hands to shape rounded tablespoons of dough into 11/2-inch balls. Roll balls in coarse sugar to coat and place on a large ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake until lightly golden and crinkly on top, 12 to 14 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet on wire rack 1 minute, then transfer cookies to rack to cool completely.

To the comment about these not being "snickerdoodles" I checked out the one at the RV goddes. There are not a huge differences between the 2 recipes other than a 1/4 c. flour, egg, and vanilla. Personally, I like snickerdoodles that are not so flat. I loved Starbucks snickerdoodles until they stopped selling them.

I am a "new" cook and I love this website. Just finished the cookies and they turned out great! I didn't use cream of tartar bc I couldn't find it but they are taste delicious. I cant wait to pass them out to my students tomorrow. :) Thanks so much!

Is it possible to eat the holidays? You may think so when you bite into one of these delicious, tender Snickerdoodle cookies. These cookies have a wonderful cinnamon sugar flavor and an undeniable old fashioned goodness. It took a full 16 minutes.
