At our Catholic (French-Canadian roots)home, Thanksgiving just did not happen without a crystal bowl of walnut stuffed dates on the snack table. Only difference is that Mom rolled the finished dates in regular granulated sugar rather than powdered sugar.

My Great Grandmother used to make these with Pecans and then put a confectionary/(I think cream cheese) filling on top of the pecan & then decorated top with cut up cherry to make a flower. Done at Christmas time. We are Baptist, if makes difference.

Not just for Ramadan! We used to have these as a treat at Christmas time (we are Roman Catholics). One of my favorites.
